Maui Mayor Michael Victorino in a policy announcement today acknowledged the importance of natural immunity.
Victorino in a county news release Tuesday said bars and restaurants may return to 100 percent capacity with no physical distancing as of Dec. 1 if any of the following requirements are met:
• A signed letter from a medical provider confirming full recovery from a COVID-19 infection
• Proof of vaccination
• Negative COVID-19 test taken within 48 hours of entry
The new county policy that allows a letter confirming full recovery from a COVID-19 infection acknowledges natural immunity.
Residents for months have pressed leaders to relax mandates and to provide small businesses with options to stringent county rules.
Hawaii for some time has maintained a high vaccination rate and low case count. However, the state has endured some of the toughest COVID-19 mandates in the country.
